Get a Job at Google

Google-Inc
Google is one of the biggest tech giants out there. The company hires the brightest talent, and understandably, working at Google is a dream of almost every techie guy worth his salt. However, getting a job at Google does not come easy. The interview and selection process at Google is a whole lot different than other companies.

Before you apply at Google, here is what you need to know in order to improve your chances of getting selected from recruitment4u:

The long interview process

The interview process at Google starts with a phone interview. Sometimes, you may get a series of calls from different people. Unless you are a complete misfit for the organization, you will be called for a face to face interview. Face to face interviews at Google are conducted in four to five stages. The idea behind the number of stages is to get opinion about a candidate from different people in an organization. If you appeal to a majority of people, you are in.

They look for problem solving skills

Interviews at Google do begin with “tell me about yourself” stuff. However, unlike other companies where the interview ends at that, at Google, it extends to a whole lot longer. Google is just not looking for your skill set. It is looking for creative problem solving skills.

It is looking for a thought process and whether you have the ability to adapt to changing situations. Thus, there is no set pattern to an interview at Google. Sometimes, you could be given a real-life solution and asked to come up with the best solution.

At other times, you may have a sort of spiritual conversation about the changing internet world which may stretch for a god 45 minutes. The idea is to show your problem solving abilities.

Brain storm on problems presented to you and do not settle for the first solution that comes to your head. Explore more and don’t be afraid to think aloud. They want to know your thought process.

You have to think different

If you want to ace the Google selection process, you have to think different. For example, consider the sequence 10, 9, 60, 90, 70, 66…….In order to arrive at the next number in the sequence, most candidates would look for mathematical relationship between numbers. However, if you ponder on it long enough, you will notice that the connection is between the spellings of each number. 10 has 3 letters, 9 has four and so on.

Don’t lose contact even if you are not selected

The tech scene is always changing. It is important not to lose contact with the interviewer even if you do not get selected. You never know, 6 months down the line, or even an year down the line, you could match with the requirements of the company. Moreover, networking with HR professionals at Google could open doors to other major tech giants out there.

However, before you apply to Google, just a small caveat- if you like to work alone and are too much of an introvert, the company is not meant for you.
